7-The government said that the Indian Railways spent Rs 3,256 crore this year against the Rs 20,000 crore from the Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh (RRSK) and Rs 16,091 crore last year.
8-The government has issued an advisory to states to accept all such documents of driving licence and vehicle registration in electronic form if presented through its DigiLocker or mParivahan platform.
9-Trains will soon have captains to ensure that rail passengers have an enjoyable journey, the government said.

13- The Lok Sabha has passed a bill that proposes to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to enable NRIs to appoint a proxy to cast vote.
14-Justice Rajendra Menon took oath as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
15-Members of the Rajya Sabha welcomed Union Minister Arun Jaitley who came to the upper House for the first time after the kidney transplant.
16-Argentinian lawmakers voted against a bill to Legalise elective Abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
Note: Argentina presently allows abortion only in cases of rape or risks to a woman’s health.
17-The CCEA has approved the release of pulses to the states and Union Territories at the discounted rate of Rs 15 per kg to be utilized for various welfare schemes.

25-The Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh clarified that only Indian citizens can seek information under RTI. It also announced that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) cannot file RTI (Right to Information) pleas.
26-Bengaluru is going to launch a campaign to make people aware about the National Anthem. The campaign will be led by Justice Santosh Hegde (former Karnataka Lokayukta and former Supreme Court judge).
27-Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has exempted Ex-servicemen and Senior Citizens from mandatory dope tests for issuance and renewal of arms licences.
28-The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awardING the Oscars, has added a new category to recognize popular films in the awards. The new Oscar will be awarded for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film.
29-Marie Curie, the first person to win two Nobel Prizes (and 1st woman to win one), has topped a BBC History magazine poll of top 100 women who changed the world. She is a Polish-born scientist.
30-Albanian-Indian Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa found a 20th place on the list while former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi was ranked 49th.
31-Mario Gomez, a veteran German striker announced his retirement from international football.
32-The Supreme Court has approved the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s draft constitution, discarding the ‘one state, one vote’ policy recommended by the Lodha Panel. The Apex court has given full membership status to Mumbai, Saurashtra and Vidarbha associations, among others.
33-Colombia’s President-elect Ivan Duque has been sworn in as the country’s 60th President.
34-UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has chosen former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to be the world body’s new High Commissioner for Human Rights. Michelle will be replacing Jordan’s Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, whose four-year term ends this month.
35-American politician and attorney, Rashida Tlaib will become the 1st Muslim woman elected to the US Congress. She won a Democratic primary election to represent Michigan’s 13th district.
36-The BJP-led NDA’s candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected new Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha after the retirement of Congress’ P J Kurien on 1st July 2018.
37-Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched Niryat Mitra mobile application for exporters and importers of the country.

38-The Competition Commission of India (CCI) today approved US retail giant Walmart’s proposed acquisition of Flipkart announced in May this year.
39-Swedish furniture giant IKEA has opened its 1st-ever store in India at Hyderabad (Telangana).
Note: IKEA plans to open its second store in Mumbai in 2019, followed by Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR.
40-Union Government has constituted 4-member Group of Ministers (GoM) to decide on 16-member Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations.
